Eligible immigrant visa applicants (not including K-1s and SB-1s) may reschedule missed immigrant visa interview appointments or schedule immigrant visa appointment for I-130s filed at U.S. Embassy Tokyo or Consulate General Naha.

Who is eligible to reschedule an immigrant visa appointment?

You must answer “YES” to all questions below before you can schedule an appointment. Please check the instructions you received from the National Visa Center or the U.S. Embassy Tokyo/Consulate General Naha:

  • Did you fill out Form DS-260?
  • Did you take a medical exam?
  • Did you receive an I-130 approval notice from the U.S. Embassy/Consulate or appointment notice from the National Visa Center?

NOTE: If your petition was filed in the United States but you have not received an appointment letter, you are not ready to schedule/reschedule your appointment.

Register Document Delivery Preferences, Schedule/Reschedule My Immigrant Visa Appointment

Appointment Scheduled by NVC

If you received an appointment notice from the National Visa Center (NVC), you must register your document delivery preference through your profile at least a day prior to the interview date.

Note: If you do not register your delivery information, the U.S. Embassy/Consulate cannot return your passport to you after the interview.

  1. Assemble the documents necessary for your visa interview using our document checklist 
  2. Create your profile. After you log in, please click “Update Profile” and complete the information.
  3. After you select a location (Tokyo or Naha), at step 3 of the profile select "NVC/KCC Appointment Holders (Document Delivery Registration only)".

Appointments for Locally Filed Petitions and Rescheduled Appointments for Immediate Relatives

If your I-130 was filed with U.S. Embassy Tokyo or Consulate General Naha and you received an approval notice from them, you may make an appointment.

If you are an immediate relative rescheduling an NVC appointment, take the following steps.

  1. Assemble documents necessary for your visa interview
    using our document checklist.
  2. Create your profile. After you log in, please click “Update Profile” and complete the information.
  3. After you select a location (Tokyo or Naha), at step 3 of the profile select "Immediate Relative (Reschedule NVC Appointment, or Initial Appointment for Local IV Cases)"
  4. Complete all required information and make an appointment.
  5. Print out the Appointment Confirmation Page and bring it to the interview.

 

Rescheduled Appointments for Family Preference, Employment, or Diversity Visas

If your visas are either Family Preference, Employment, or Diversity Visas, take the following steps:

  1. Assemble documents necessary for your visa interview using our document checklist.
  2. Create your profile. After you log in, please click “Update Profile” and complete the information.
  3. After you select a location (Tokyo or Naha), at step 3 of the profile select "Family Preference, Employment, or Diversity Visa (Reschedule NVC/KCC Appointment)"
  4. Complete all required information and request an appointment.
  5. Wait until you receive a notice from the U.S. Embassy/Consulate.
  6. Log back into your profile and print out the Appointment Confirmation Page and bring it to the interview.

Note: 

  • Married children and children aged 21 or older may not derive immigration status from the principal applicant. If you are the principal applicant and you wish to check if a child who is going to turn 21 or is over 21 is eligible for the Child Status Protection Act (CSPA), please submit your request before rescheduling the interview. Children over 21 years old who have not received confirmation from our office regarding their visa eligibility should not attempt to reschedule an interview or undergo the visa medical examination.
  • Different cases which have the same petitioner (for example IR-5 cases, IR-1/IR-2 cases, or CR-1/CR-2 cases) should not reschedule separate appointments. Instead, reschedule one appointment and add all other applicants as dependents when rescheduling the appointment.

If you have never had an interview appointment on http://www.ustraveldocs.com/, you will need to log into your account and choose the option “New Application/Schedule Appointment” on the left column of the screen in order to reschedule.

If you already had an interview appointment on http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ and want to reschedule your appointment again, log into your account, then choose “Reschedule Immigrant Visa Appointment”.

Please note that the closing time for appointments is two working days prior to the appointment.  If you cannot attend the rescheduled appointment, please cancel or reschedule your appointment at least three working days prior to your appointment date.  Otherwise, you will need to wait until the appointment date has passed to schedule a new one.
